Ioana Agache​

Romania

Professor of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Transylvania University, Brasov, Romania and Past President of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) 2017-2019 and past Chair of the EAACI Research and Outreach Committee. Her research in the field of Asthma and Allergy and Clinical Immunology focuses on asthma phenotypes and endotypes, biomarkers, immune modulation, AI/machine-learning and integrated management of allergic diseases, with a special focus on exposomics and One Health. Ioana Agache is co-author of several international and European Guidelines, such as ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis and its impact on Asthma), EAACI Allergen Immunotherapy Guidelines and EAACI Food Allergy, Anaphylaxis Guidelines, EAACI guidelines on Biologics.She is Editor of several books: Implementing Precision Medicine in Best Practices of Chronic Airway Diseases (2018) Global Atlas of Asthma (2013), Global Atlas of Allergy (2014), Global Atlas of Allergic Rhinitis and Chronic Rhinosinusitis (2015), is a member of the Editorial Board for Allergy and Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Ioana Agache graduated with a medical degree from “Carol Davila” University, Bucharest and absolved Magna Cum Laude her PhD in Internal Medicine.

Tomáš Balner​

Allergist and clinical immunologist at the Department of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, University Hospital Ostrava, and affiliated with the Institute of Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava, Tomáš Balner (MD) provides comprehensive care for patients with allergic and immunological disorders. Since 2020, he has worked at the Department of Allergology and Clinical Immunology at University Hospital Ostrava, with primary interests including allergen immunotherapy, asthma, drug hypersensitivity reactions, food allergies and chronic urticaria. He lectures at national and international congresses, contributes to teaching medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava, and is pursuing a PhD. He is the author and co-author of numerous publications.

Sharon Chinthrajah ​

Professor of Pediatric Food Allergy, Immunology, and Asthma at Stanford University and Co-Director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research, R. Sharon Chinthrajah (MD) received her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, completed Internal Medicine training and a chief residency at California Pacific Medical Center, and sub-specialized in Pulmonary/Critical Care and Allergy/Immunology at Boston Medical Center. Her research focuses on developing novel therapeutic options for allergic diseases and elucidating the molecular mechanisms driving therapeutic response, with extensive experience leading academic and industry-sponsored translational clinical trials across food allergy, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, asthma, vaccination, and COVID-19. She has published over 170 peer-reviewed research articles, including in NEJM, The Lancet, Nature Medicine, JAMA, and Allergy, and designed and co-led the OUtMATCH clinical trial, whose Stage 1 results led to FDA approval of omalizumab for the treatment of any food allergy. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including National Geographic’s Top Medical Breakthroughs of 2024 (“OUtMATCH Study”), NEJM Notable Articles of 2024 (“Omalizumab for the Treatment of Multiple Food Allergies”), the Drexel University Outstanding Medical Graduate Award (2024), and Stanford University’s Early Clinical Engagement Award (2022). She is committed to training the next generation of clinical researchers and mentors students and junior faculty pursuing translational research and careers in medicine and science.

Athanasios Damialis​

Professor of Terrestrial Ecology and Climate Change in the Department of Ecology, School of Biology, Faculty of Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, Thanos Damialis has been engaged since 1996 in environmental health (aerobiology, impacts of climate change and human biometeorology), plant and microbial ecology (pollen, fungi and viruses), and environmentally affected diseases, including allergies, COVID-19 and thunderstorm asthma. He has published more than 200 relevant papers in scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. His main goal is to advance understanding of Planetary Health and to develop short- and long-term mitigation measures, accessible to all, to support optimal environmental and human health.

Tari Haahtela​

Professor Emeritus of Clinical Allergology at the University of Helsinki, Finland, Tari Haahtela is a specialist in pulmonary medicine and allergology and former Head of the Skin and Allergy Hospital, Helsinki University Hospital. His group has studied environmental and lifestyle determinants of allergy and asthma in Finnish and Russian Karelia, generating the biodiversity hypothesis of health. He chaired the Finnish Asthma Programme (1994–2004) and the Allergy Programme (2008–2018), and co-initiated the local Natural Step to Health Programme in the City of Lahti (2022–2032).

Peter Howarth

UK

Senior Medical Director (Respiratory Biologics) in Global Medical Affairs at GSK and Professor Emeritus in Allergy and Respiratory Medicine at the University of Southampton, Peter Howarth has published over 400 peer-reviewed papers (H-index 115) and has contributed to national, European and international (World Health Organisation) guidelines on the management of rhinitis and asthma. He has been involved in EU-funded collaborative programmes including ENFUMOSA, BIOAIR and U-BIOPRED, focusing on severe asthma, and GA2LEN addressing allergic disease. As an industry representative, he contributes to the severe asthma consortia SHARP (ERS), RASP-UK (MRC) and 3-TR (EU), and is also involved with the patient-oriented and guideline group EUFOREA.

Marek Jutel​

Professor of Allergy, Clinical Immunology and Internal Medicine and Head of the Department of Clinical Immunology at Wroclaw Medical University, Wroclaw, Poland, Marek Jutel is also Director of the ALL-MED Medical Research Institute in Wroclaw and an Affiliate Professor at Harvard University, Department of Environmental Health, School of Public Health. He is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Allergy and Past President of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). His research focuses on immune tolerance mechanisms, particularly in the context of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), and he is actively involved in clinical research on immunotherapy, biologics and pharmacotherapy in allergic diseases, asthma and past COPD. He pioneered the use of recombinant allergens in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases and has served as principal investigator in more than 100 clinical trials in allergy, asthma, COPD and other immune-mediated diseases. He also contributes to numerous EAACI and other scientific organization guidelines and position papers on the management of allergic and immune-mediated diseases.

 

Peter Kopač

Slovenia

Assist Prof Peter Kopač is Head of the Department of Allergology and Clinical Immunology at the University Clinic Golnik, Slovenia, and President of the Slovenian Section for Allergology and Clinical Immunology. His clinical and research work focuses on severe asthma, drug hypersensitivity, and the treatment of anaphylaxis. He has co-authored several national and international guidelines in pulmonology and allergology. He is also a member of the EAACI Board for Drug Allergy. His recent research focuses on genetics and molecular mechanisms of severe allergic reactions.

Aleksandra Kucharczyk​

Specialist in Internal Medicine and Allergology and a senior academic and clinical researcher at the Department of Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Allergology, Clinical Immunology and Rare Diseases, Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute, Warsaw, Poland, Aleksandra Kucharczyk (MD, PhD) is the author of numerous scientific publications and co-author of key textbooks and monographs, including Biologic Treatment in Allergology, Allergology. Specialist Handbook, and Allergology in Clinical Practice. She is actively involved in postgraduate medical education and specialist training. Her main clinical and research interests include severe asthma, biologic therapies in allergic diseases, hereditary angioedema, and rare immunological disorders.

Maciej Kupczyk

Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, Asthma, and Allergy at the Medical University of Łódź, affiliated with Barlicki University Hospital, Poland, Maciej Kupczyk (MD, PhD) gained scientific experience during internships at Huddinge Sjukhus, Stockholm (1999) and Ospedale Luigi Sacco, Milan (2000), followed by a postdoctoral position at the Allergy Research Center, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm (2008–2011). His main scientific interests focus on severe asthma, allergology, specific immunotherapy and drug hypersensitivity. He is a member of scientific societies including the Polish Society of Allergology, the Polish Society of Lung Diseases, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and the European Respiratory Society. He served as President of the Polish Society of Allergology (PTA) (2021–2024), previously as President-Elect (2018–2021), is a member of the Main Board of PTA, and was Chair of the Łódź Branch of PTA (2015–2018). He is the author of over 190 publications.

Vera Mahler

Head of the Allergology Division at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI), Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines, Langen, Germany, Vera Mahler is a board-certified dermatologist and allergologist and an associate professor at the Medical Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. In her role at the German competent authority, she is committed to facilitating the availability of authorized test and therapy allergens of unobjectionable quality, safety and efficacy. She is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed publications.

Laura Malinauskiene​

Allergist and clinical immunologist at Vilnius University and Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, Vilnius, Lithuania, Laura Malinauskienė has more than 20 years of clinical experience and has been teaching at the Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine since 2006. She earned her PhD at Lund University (Sweden) in 2012 and was appointed Professor in 2019. Her research focuses on contact allergy, emerging allergens, immunodeficiencies, and rare allergic and immune diseases, and she is an active educator, researcher and speaker at national and international allergology meetings.

Marcin Moniuszko

Poland

Head of the Department of Allergology and Internal Medicine and the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Immunoregulation at the Medical University of Białystok, Poland, Marcin Moniuszko (MD, PhD) graduated with distinction in medicine from the Medical Academy in Białystok in 1999 and has worked in the Department of Allergology and Internal Medicine since 2004, becoming its Head in 2018; he is specialized in internal medicine and allergology. Following graduation, he completed numerous scientific internships, including three years at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, USA). Since 2012, he has led the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Immunoregulation, where—together with his team and clinical collaborators—he has published a series of studies on the role of stem and progenitor cells (including VSELs, HSCs and EPCs) and immune-cell subpopulations in the pathogenesis of neoplastic, allergic, autoimmune, metabolic and other diseases, as well as research on immunological and hormonal factors affecting mobilization and proliferation of stem cells, cancer cells and immune cells. He is also a co-author of multiple works on how changes in genomic and metabolome profiles influence the pathogenesis, course and treatment response of several civilization diseases. On March 15, 2024, he was elected Rector of the Medical University of Białystok, and he serves as Vice-President of the Polish Society of Allergology.

Associate Professor at the Institute of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, Hradec Králové University Hospital, and at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Jakub Novosad (MD, PhD) focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of severe bronchial asthma, particularly with biologics, and on biomarker analysis in immune-mediated diseases, including lung function testing, exhaled air analysis and eosinophil phenotyping. He serves on committees of the Czech Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (ČSAKI), the National Centre of Severe Asthma (NCTA), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the International Society for Eosinophils (IEC), and the European Mast Cell and Basophil Research Network (EMCBRN). He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, is actively involved in clinical trials and translational research, regularly speaks at national and international meetings, and contributes to education and training programmes in immunology and allergy.

Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn

Professor of Pediatrics at the New York University R. Grossman School of Medicine, New York, NY, and Director of the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Division, Department of Pediatrics, Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, Anna Nowak-Węgrzyn (MD, PhD, FAAAAI, FACAAI) is also the Director of the FARE Clinical Research Center of Distinction at NYU. Her research interests focus on egg and milk allergies, including baked milk and baked egg diets, food-induced anaphylaxis in children, and novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to food allergy (oral, sublingual and patch immunotherapy), as well as oral tolerance development, the role of the gut microbiome, and food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES). She served as a Director of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (2017–2022) and was elected in 2022 to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. She is Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the International FPIES Association and led the international effort to develop the first Consensus Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management of FPIES (published in 2017). She is Associate Editor of Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the official journal of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

 

Carmen Panaitescu

Romania

Professor and Head of the Centre for Immuno-Physiology and Biotechnologies at the Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timișoara, Romania, Carmen Panaitescu (MD, PhD) has held senior leadership roles in allergy and clinical immunology at national and European levels, including President of the Romanian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Member-at-Large on the Executive Board of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). Her research addresses allergic sensitisation profiles in Romania and advances in molecular allergology, with particular emphasis on recombinant allergen expression and the characterisation of immune responses induced by allergen immunotherapy and biological therapies in severe asthma. An Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, she has organised annual meetings to disseminate new trends in molecular allergology, allergen immunotherapy as a prototype of precision medicine, and the environmental impact on allergic diseases. She currently serves as President of the Commission on Allergology and Clinical Immunology within the Romanian College of Physicians and, as Vice-President of the International Network of Medical Universities in Molecular Allergology and Immunology, has contributed to the design and implementation of training programmes in allergology and molecular immunology across South-Eastern Europe. She acts as a peer reviewer for leading journals and has authored widely cited scientific contributions, including 28 books and monographs and 57 papers in ISI-indexed journals (h-index 16; 1,296 citations).

Luis Pérez de Llano

Head of the Pneumology Service at Lucus Augusti University Hospital, Spain, and Associate Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Dr. Pérez de Llano has been practicing as a pulmonologist since 1996. His field of expertise is severe asthma. He is the author or co-author of several book chapters and more than 200 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and has delivered more than 600 professional presentations at regional, national and international conferences.

Mira Pevec​

Croatia

Clinician at the Clinic for Lung Diseases, University Hospital Center Zagreb, Mira Pevec works with patients with allergic diseases and asthma, including the application of allergen immunotherapy. Her clinical practice focuses on the comprehensive management of respiratory allergies and severe asthma. Her special interests include the pathophysiological mechanisms of NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease and severe asthma, with an emphasis on improving patient outcomes through evidence-based care. She is committed to advancing clinical understanding and treatment strategies in respiratory and allergic diseases.

Werner Pichler

Swizerland

At ADR-AC, Bern, Switzerland, Werner J. Pichler (MD) is a Swiss specialist certified in internal medicine, clinical immunology/allergology and laboratory medicine, with immunology and medical training in Austria (Innsbruck, Vienna), the USA (Bethesda, NIH) and Germany (Hannover). He worked at Inselspital, University of Bern (1984–2014) in the Division of Allergology and Clinical Immunology and served as Head of Allergology from 2001. He has published 460 original articles and reviews in international peer-reviewed journals, focusing mainly on drug hypersensitivity and clinical allergy/immunology, and is known for key contributions to understanding mechanisms of drug hypersensitivity reactions, including the p-i concept (pharmacological interaction with immune receptors). He has authored books on drug hypersensitivity (2007, 2009, 2010) and “Klinische Immunologie” (1997, 2014), and has contributed since 2007 to “UpToDate” on mechanisms and diagnosis of drug hypersensitivity. He founded AIU (Allergy and Immunology Update), a yearly course in Switzerland (1999), and initiated the biennial Drug Hypersensitivity Meeting (DHM) in 2004, now the world’s largest meeting dedicated to drug hypersensitivity. In 2006, he founded ADR-AC GmbH (Adverse Drug Reactions—Analysis and Consulting), devoted to diagnosis and research in drug hypersensitivity and consulting for the pharmaceutical industry.

Celeste Porsbjerg​

Denmark

Professor of severe asthma at the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Bispebjerg Hospital, Copenhagen, Celeste Porsbjerg (Prof, PhD) heads the severe asthma clinic and chairs the Respiratory Research Unit. Her research revolves around addressing key clinical challenges in difficult asthma and personalising asthma management. She is a co-chair in the ERS Clinical Research Collaboration (CRC) on severe asthma, SHARP, chairs the Danish Severe Asthma Registry (DSAR) and the NORDSTAR Asthma Research Consortium, and co-chairs the 3TR-ABC study.

 

Iwona Poziomkowska-Gęsicka ​

Specialist in Internal Medicine and Allergology, Iwona Poziomkowska-Gęsicka (MD, PhD) graduated with distinction from the Pomeranian Medical University in 1996 and completed first- and second-degree specializations in internal medicine at the Clinic of Internal Medicine, SPSK2 PUM. She obtained her PhD in 2005 and her specialization in allergology in 2010, and she is President-Elect of the Polish Society of Allergology. Her main areas of interest include anaphylaxis, asthma, drug and food allergies, molecular diagnostics in allergology, and biological treatment in allergology. She is actively involved in educational activities, delivering lectures for allergy specialists, general practitioners, orthodontists, pharmacists and other specialists, as well as high school students.

Sejal Saglani​

UK

Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart & Lung Institute (NHLI), Imperial College London, and Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton Hospital, Sejal Saglani (BSc(Hons), MBChB, MD, FRCPCH, FERS, FMedSci) leads the Paediatric Severe Asthma Group at NHLI and is Director of the Centre for Paediatrics & Child Health at Imperial College London. She completed specialist training in respiratory paediatrics and undertook Asthma UK–funded postgraduate research at NHLI on abnormalities in severe infant and pre-school wheeze/asthma, receiving the NHLI best thesis prize. She has held a British Lung Foundation Research Fellowship and a Wellcome Intermediate Clinical Fellowship, and has since been awarded an MRC New Investigator Award and an NIHR Career Development Fellowship; she currently leads an NIHR-funded clinical trial of new treatments for childhood severe asthma. Her clinical and research interests include recurrent pre-school wheeze, difficult asthma in school-age children, predictors of progression from pre-school wheeze to asthma, and the identification of novel therapies for pre-school wheeze and childhood severe asthma, within a translational programme linking pre-clinical models, airway sampling and interventional clinical trials. In 2025, she was elected Fellow of the European Respiratory Society (FERS) and the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci).

PhD in Biomedical Sciences from KU Leuven, Belgium, Sven Seys has over fifteen years of experience in pre-clinical, translational and real-life research in the field of chronic respiratory diseases. He is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed international publications (H-index: 41) and has served on the board of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) in various roles, including Secretary of the Asthma Section. He currently serves as Associate Editor for Respiratory Medicine and Frontiers in Allergy.

Anamarija Štajduhar​

Pulmonologist at the Clinic for Lung Diseases, Jordanovac, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia, Dr Anamarija Štajduhar, MD, PhD holds a PhD in asthma genetics and is involved in several national and international projects conducted at the Jordanovac Clinic. She is a member of multiple European professional societies and serves as an external teaching associate at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb. Her clinical and research interests focus on adult obstructive lung diseases, particularly asthma and COPD, as well as allergic, eosinophilic, and fungal respiratory diseases.

Professor of Immunology and Hospital Practitioner in Immunology, Allergy and Laboratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital of Reims, University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, Reims, France, Joana Vitte (MD, PhD, Habil) is President-elect of the French Society of Allergy. Her work focuses on translational research and innovative diagnostic approaches in allergy, from proof of concept to epidemiological validation, clinical implementation, guideline updating, and knowledge dissemination. She has a long-standing interest in molecular allergens as key triggers of innate and adaptive hypersensitivity reactions and as biomarkers that support precision medicine in daily allergy practice.

Tonya Winders

US

President and CEO of the Global Allergy & Airways Patient Platform (GAAPP), Tonya Winders is a global leader in patient advocacy and respiratory health with more than 25 years of healthcare leadership, representing and supporting more than 180 patient organizations worldwide. Her work at GAAPP focuses on amplifying the patient voice in research, driving disease awareness and education initiatives, and advancing equitable access to quality care globally. Her scientific collaborations span Europe, North America and Oceania, with co-authorship on over 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations at major international congresses, including EAACI, ERS and AAAAI, bridging patient insights with clinical implementation to inform international guidelines and research agendas. Prior to GAAPP, she led the Allergy & Asthma Network in the United States and served on expert panels with WHO, GINA and EAACI. As a mother and grandmother to children living with asthma and allergies, she brings both professional and personal commitment to integrating lived experience into scientific innovation and improving outcomes for patients worldwide.

 

Magdalena Zemelka-Wiacek

Poland

Dr. Magdalena Zemelka-Wiącek, PhD, is a University Professor at the Department of Clinical Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, Wroclaw Medical University, Wroclaw, Poland.Her research focuses on allergen immunotherapy and the use of allergen exposure chambers (AECs) for assessments in allergic rhinitis and asthma. As Principal Investigator, she leads research project on environmental pollutants – the impact of nanoplastics on immune function, investigating their penetration into biological systems and potential health effects. She is actively involved in the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) as Science Committee Secretary and a Board Member of the Epidemiology Working Group. She also contributes to Position Papers and Guidelines on allergy, asthma, and One Health and environmental health. Additionally, she serves on the Editorial Board of the journal “Allergy”. Besides her research and publishing activities, she is engaged in mentoring and teaching, supervising PhD and master’s students.
